806,568. Initiating- composition for detonators. DYNAMIT - AKTIENGESELL - SCHAFT VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. April 29, 1957 [April 27, 1956], No. 13645/57. Classes 9(1) and 9(2) An initiating composition for an electric detonator comprises a lead azide mass the surface of which consists of lead chromate. Preferably the lead azide is a product of purity above 80 per cent and may contain a proportion of basic azide, and it is reacted with a water soluble chromate such as potassium, sodium or ammonium bichromate, thus forming an adherent coating of lead chromate on the surface of the lead azide. Alternatively the lead azide may be treated with a solution of the water soluble chromate at a.p.H. range of 1 to 5. In an example lead azide (92 per cent PbN 6 ) is reacted with chromic acid in water to give a lead chromate coated product.
