Abstract
922,931. Explosive compositions. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. July 29, 1960 [July 30, 1959], No. 26535/60. Class 9 (2). The crystalline water-soluble constituents of an explosive mixture are waterproofed by applying to the surface of the crystalline constituents an hydrophilic component and then an ionogenic waterproofing component, thus producing a waterproofing substance in situ on the surface. The hydrophilic component may be a solution of one or more inorganic salts such as calcium chloride or zinc chloride and the waterproofing component may be a solution of a fatty acid such as stearic acid or a solution of ammonium stearate or a sodium higher alkyliminodiacetate, when an acid is used it must be neutralized for example with ammonia or an amine after application. In a typical example (1) a solution of calcium chloride and zinc chloride in water and ethanol was sprayed on to a mixture of potassium nitrate, containing a trace of tetryl, and ammonium chloride and then mixed. Stearic acid dissolved in ethanol was then sprayed on and ammonia blown on. The product was then mixed with aluminium hydroxide, a mixture of nitroglycerine and nitroglycol, collodion wool and guer meal.
