Abstract

1390117 Explosive compositions GENERAL MILLS CHEMICALS Inc 21 Aug 1972 [27 Aug 1971] 38921/72 Heading C1D A gelled explosive slurry comprises a fuel, a gelling agent comprising a blend of locust bean gum and xanthomonas gum, and a solvent for the gum blend. The fuel may be ammonium nitrate or perchlorate, or the nitrate of potassium, sodium, or calcium. The composition may also include a sensitizer, for example Al, TNT, cyclonite, nitrocellulose, or nitroglycerine. The glucuronic acid groups of the xanthomanas gum are preferably neutralized with Na and K ions, Na ions being in the larger amount. In examples slurries are desinted containing ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, water, Al flakes, together with the mixture of gums. The slurries are suitable for use immersed in water, being waterproof and insensitive to pH changes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,304,500.
