Abstract
1317327 Explosive compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Oct 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 56693/70 Heading ClD [Also in Division C3] A slurry explosive composition comprises at least one oxygen-supplying inorganic salt, water and, as thickener, a xanthomonas hydrophilic colloid, cross-linked with an oxide of an element in a pentavalent or hexavalent state (e.g. SbV TeVI, or CrVI), or an acid produced from the oxide or an alkali metal salt of the acid wherein the acid has a dissociation constant K less than 1À0 in 0À1 to 0À01N aqueous solution. The preferred oxygen-suppling salts are the nitrates or perchlorates of ammonia, sodium, potassium or calcium. A reducing agent such as thiourea, sodium thiosulphate or tannic acid, a sensitizing fuel, for example particulate light metal, or metalloid, particulate organic explosive or carbonaceous material in particular aluminium, aluminium alloy, silicon, ferrosilicon, ferrophosphorus, TNT, PETN, cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, composition B, Pentolite, smokeless powder, nitrocellulose, nitrostarch, glycol, diethylene glycol, dioxan, glycol monomethyl ether, methyl carbitol, sucrose, urea, thiourea or a mixture of two or more said fuels, or a density control agent, for example sodium nitrate, may be added.
