Abstract

1370923 Explosive compositions CANADIAN INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 Oct 1972 [30 Nov 1971] 55495/71 Heading C1D [Also in Division C2] An explosive composition contains, as a sensitizing constituent, a liquid hydroxyalkyl nitrate, for example ethylene glycol mononitrate, propylene glycol mononitrate, or hydroxychloropropyl nitrate; the preparation of these compounds is described (see Division C2). The Specification describes aqueous slurry extrudable gelatinous, tampable cohesive powdered, and free-running powdered types of composition. Ingredients specified are water, ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, zinc nitrate, gilsonite, aluminium, sulphur, fuel oil, ground coke, guar gum, hydroxyethyl cellulose, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, chlorohydrin, sodium lignosulphonate, fumaric acid, vegetable meal, wood pulp, wheat flour, tamarind flour, guar flour, zinc chromate, calcium carbonate, stearic acid, nitrocotton, ethanolamine nitrate, ethylene glycol dinitrate, nitroglycerine, PETN, dinitrotoluene, TNT, alkylamine nitrate, and ammonium perchlorate. The slurry compositions may include air bubbles or glass microbubbles containing air; also present may be a cross-linker, for example potassium pyroantimonate or a mixture of sodium dichromate and ferric nitrate, and a surfactant, for example ammonium lauryl sulphate ethoxylate or triethanolamine lauryl sulphate.
