Abstract

1,154,946. Explosive compositions. HERCULES Inc. 13 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 27336/67. Heading C1D. [Also in Division F3] An ignition charge for use in a blasting cap adapted to be desensitized by the ingress of water comprises a mixture of lead and selenium; lead oxide and boron; red lead and manganese boride; or potassium chlorate and nitrostarch. A similarly desensitized booster contains a charge of RDX containing a wetting agent such as a mixture of 85% sulphonated carboxylic acid ester and 15% sodium benzoate or a sodium salt of sulphonated naphthalene. Alternatively, the charge of RDX can contain an effervescing material such as sodium bicarbonate or bitartrate or a water soluble salt such as ammonium or sodium nitrate.
