Abstract

1,202,390. Pyrotechnic compositions and propellants. ASTRA FIREWORKS Ltd. 24 Oct., 1968 [6 Nov., 1967], No. 50346/67. Heading ClD. A pyrotechnic composition comprises a mixture of a liquid phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde resin and an ammonium, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or urea nitrate, an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal chlorate, or an ammonium, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal perchlorate or chromate. Paraformaldehyde or formaldehyde may be present as polymerization catalyst. A small amount of alcohol may be added. Metal ingredients such as Mg, Fe, Zn, Ti, Cu, Al, Sb, Mn and Zr may be added in the uncoated state. Examples describe coloured smoke, coloured star, and rocket compositions, and compositions for use in cones, fountains, tourbillons, saxons, sparklers, whistling fireworks, and humming rockets. Ingredients additional to those specified above are sodium and potassium chlorate, potassium and barium nitrate, potassium perchlorate, Rhodamine B, strontium oxalate, polyvinyl chloride, charcoal, trihydroxybenzoic acid and salicylic acid. The rocket composition may be used in the rocket device of Specification 1,2C2,389.
