Abstract
670,822. Electric blasting fuzes. RUBENSTEIN, L., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 15, 1950. [Nov. 15, 1949] No. 29229/49. Class 9 (i). A high tension electric fuze for blasting operations has a matchhead composition between the polepieces comprising 45 per cent to 50 per cent lead dioxide, not less than 17 per cent zirconium powder, and 15 per cent to 35 per cent aluminium powder, all parts being by weight. These ingredients are bound together by an adhesive, e.g. nitrocellulose, and coated with a flashing composition, e.g. a potassium chlorate-charcoal composition and with waterproofing compositions. In an example 35 parts of paint-fine aluminium powder are mixed with 45 parts of lead dioxide. The mixture is moistened with 3 per cent industrial nitrocellulose solution in a mixture of amyl acetate and amyl alcohol and 20 parts of zirconium powder are then incorporated. Fuzehead blanks comprising two metal pole pieces separated by pressboard insulation are dipped in the composition. The coating is dried and the process repeated. The primed fuzeheads are then coated with a composition comprising 1 part charcoal to 5 parts potassium chlorate in a 7 per cent solution of the nitrocellulose. After drying coatings of 10 per cent collodion and a 15 per cent solution of nitrocellulose are applied. Two further examples are given.
