Abstract
846,688. Pyrotechnic compositions. DYNAMIT-AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. July 17, 1958 [July 17, 1957], No. 22983/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 9(2). A slow-burning pyrotechnic composition is prepared by mixing one or more compounds having a high oxygen content with a halogenated cation-exchange resin and compressing the mixture. One or more metals such as magnesium or aluminium may be incorporated in the mixture. The resin may be saturated with calcium, strontium, barium or thallium ions and the oxygen compound may be a nitrate or chlorate. In an example a saturated solution of barium acetate was filtered through a chlorinated polystyrene-sulphonic acid resin having a chlorine content of 35%, until the resin was saturated with barium ions. The resin was dried in vacuo, then pulverised and mixed with barium nitrate and magnesium. The mixture was then moulded under pressure. In a second example strontium nitrate replaces the barium nitrate and cryolite is included in the mixture.
