Abstract

1,186,742. Preparation of 1,2-dichloroethane. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. 21 July, 1967 [23 July, 1966], No. 33548/67. Heading C2C. 1,2-Dichloroethane is prepared by reacting C 2 H 4 with Cl 2 in liquid dichloroethane as the reaction medium in one or more stages in the presence of a chlorine carrier and oxygen, less than 1% by volume of oxygen with reference to the gas mixture being used. The amount of oxygen is preferably 0À1-0À3% by volume and inert gases, preferably 1-20% by volume, may also be present. In one example, C 2 H 4 and Cl 2 are reacted in the presence of Fe 2 O 3 as chlorine-carrier and 0À27% O 2 by volume.
