Abstract
374,060. Detonating caps. ESCHBACH, W., 2, Altenrather Strasse, and WIPPENHOHN, H., Kirchstrasse, both in Troisdorf, Rhineland, Germany. Jan. 20, 1931, No. 1866. Convention date, July 7, 1930. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii).] A detonating cap, especially for projectiles, bombs, torpedoes, and the like, contains a base charge band over this an initial charge a consisting of an ignition composition mixed with substances capable of increasing its sensitivity towards impact and friction such as powdered glass, quartz, tetrazene, and silicides, so that the said initial charge serves as a percussion cap fired by a needle and is also capable of causing the detonation. Examples of initial charges are : (1) a mixture of 98 per cent of lead azide with 2 per cent of powdered glass ; (2) a mixture of 99 per cent of lead azide with 1 per cent of powdered quartz ; and (3) a mixture of 80 per cent of lead azide with 10 per cent of tetrazene and 10 per cent of calcium silicide. The initial charge may also consist of a usual friction composition with the flame-yielding components such as potassium chlorate and antimony sulphide replaced by shattering explosives such as nitropentaerythrite. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 7286/15 and 280,249, [both in Class 9 (ii), Torpedoes &c.].
