Abstract

142,303. Marks, E. C. R., (Du Pont de Nemours & Co., E. I.). May 7, 1919. Explosives.-Consists in the use of nitrated ivory nut or like hemi- or pseudo-celluloses in detonators and detonating compositions. For example, nitrated ivory nut may be mixed with fulminate of mercury, lead azide, potassium chlorate, or trinitrotoluene. The nitrated ivory nut composition may be used alone, or as a primary or secnndary charge in conjunction with a secondary or primary charge respectively, which may itself contain nitrated ivory nut. These compositions may be put in usual copper detonators, covered with perforated thimbles and ignited by an ordinary fuse.
