In a ship hold arrangement comprising at least two superimposed decks 1, 2 the hatchway borders 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> of which are offset horizontally with respect to each other so that at least one deck (2) shows alongside the border of its hatchway (41) one or a plurality of areas constituting an uncovered advance with respect to the hatchways of the upper decks, the displacement of the decks is combined with a vertical raising of the hatch coamings of said displaced decks. Due to the relative displacement of the decks 1, 2 the hold between them has a vertical access dimension a and an oblique access dimension z. The hatch coaming cos a 4<SP>1</SP> is shown at 4<SP>11</SP> raised by an amount y while at 4<SP>111</SP> it is raised an amount y<SP>1</SP> to uncover the ends of the deck beams 6 which are of bracket shape and whose lower wings 5 may be used as runways for loading trollies.
