Abstract

1,262,047. Barge with stern recess. UNITED STATES FREIGHT CO. 15 May, 1970 [25 Aug., 1969], No. 23787/70. Addition to 1,207,342. Heading B7A. The stern of an ocean going barge has an open bottom recess 62 defined by stern wings 48, 50 each being of a length not less than 5% of the overall length of the barge and extending downwardly over a portion of its length into the general plane of the bottom 34 of the barge. The outer side walls 54, 60 of the stern wings are in alignment with corresponding side walls 14, 16 of the intermediate portion of the hull. In the embodiment shown the inner and outer side walls of the stern wings are substantially parallel to each other. The ends of the stern wings may have various shapes.
