Abstract

780,466. Rotary pumps. WALSH, W. Jan. 20, 1956, No. 1924/56. Class 110 (2). A pump of the gyratory-piston type has the actuating shaft 16 and cam or eccentric 15 isolated from the working chamber by means of a fixed flexible tube 7, Fig. 1. The tube is secured to end covers 8, 9 by joints which are gas and water tight. In Fig. 2, suction and delivery ports 1A, 1B are separated by a rubber or like flexible abutment 2 which may have a metal tip on its free end where it engages the rubber rotor 3. A metal sleeve 6 is secured to the tube 7 and provides a running surface for the rotor 3. The tube may be of oil-resisting rubber or other flexible substance. The eccentric 15 revolves freely in a sleeve 14, fixed in the bore of the tube 7. End plates 4, 5 are provided. Fig. 3 shows another arrangement in which the rotor is actuated by a shaft 19 which is supported in bearings 21, 22. Further pumping chambers may be arranged axially, separated by plates. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the flexible tube is moulded integrally with the rotor or displacer.
