Abstract

614,727. Rotary pumps. WALSH, W. July 23, 1946, No. 21874. [Class 110 (ii)] A rotary pump of the hinged abutment type has a resilient member interposed between the outer circumference of the eccentric rotor and the casing bore. In Fig. 1, an eccentric 49 is driven through a leaf spring 50 from a, shaft 46 and supports a rotor 51 which is surrounded by a rubber, tyre 52. The abutment 54 is of toughened rubber and is held in position by a pin 55. The casing is provided with circular end plates through which passes the shaft 46. When foreign substances are contained in the fluid being pumped, the tyre yields, preventing damage to the pump. Fig. 3 shows another form having two working chambers arranged axially, each having a metal abutment 29, pivoted at 30, the free end being spring-pressed on to the periphery of a rotor 37 which is driven through a spring 36. Eccentrics 33, on the shaft 18, drive the inner rotor rings 34 which are held in position by means of studs 35. The pumping chamber has a rubber lining 22, which may be solid, or hollow as shown, held in position by pins 23. The lining is closed by a porous plug 27 which allows liquid to enter. Fig. 5 shows a pump with an abutment 66 which is integral with a tyre 67, of rubber coated and bonded canvas. The rotor is also provided with a rubber tyre 70, which is hollow, and has a porous plug 71 at one end. The tyre may comprise a rubber band provided with spaced projecting ribs which successively engage the casing bore.
