Abstract
779,797. Casting composite hinges. GERMEK, J. March 18, 1955 [March 18, 1954], No. 7986/55. Class 83 (1). In a die-cast hinge, one part 1 is cast with a connecting member 3 formed with an axial socket 4, whilst the other part 2 is cast with a pair of connecting members 5, 6 so spaced that in the assembled hinge they bear against the side-faces of the socketed connecting member, the hinge-pin 7 being integral with one of said pair of connecting members and being formed by casting into said socket. The natural oxide-layer on the surface of the female part 1 provides an insulating layer to prevent it from melting into the subsequentlycast part, and said layer may be increased by artificial means. A two-part metal mould 9 has cavities for casting a pair of parts 1 and cavities in which parts 2 are cast on to the previously-cast pair of parts 1, so that two finished hinges are produced at each casting- operation.
