Abstract

779,702. Weighing apparatus. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd April 1, 1955 [April 23, 1954], No. 11751/54. Class 143. An apparatus for feeding weighed charges of tobacco to a packing machine, comprises a pair of automatic feed weighers 17 which are first fed automatically with fixed length bulk charges cut from a compressed stream of tobacco, whereafter the final weight is made up manually and the weighers tip their contents into pockets 26 on a conveyer 27 feeding the packing machine (not shown). The bulk feed is effected by a conveyer 6 which carries the tobacco from a hopper 1 to a pair of compressing rollers 7 feeding a cutter 8, 9. Each cut charge falls into a receptacle 14 carried by an intermittently rotated table 13, and is subsequently tipped out of the receptacle into one of the weighers. Control means (not shown) .are provided to effect the above operations in timed sequence and to cut off the supply of tobacco to the cutter in the event of a weigher failing to discharge.
