Abstract

779,425. Doctors of paper-making machines &c. LODDING ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Aug. 4, 1955 [Aug. 6, 1954], No. 22450/55. Class 96. Fibre &c. scraped from a roll 12 by a doctor blade 22 is cleared by one or more air jets 34 directed towards one end of the blade and enclosed in a hood 24 which is hinged at 26 on the blade holder 20. The free edge 28 of the hood 24 just clears the roll 12, the clearance being variable by adjusting riders 30 secured in brackets 32. The compressed-air supply pipe 38 for the jets 34 is connected with a shut-off valve, a filter and a solenoid valve with an automatic timer so that the air jets are supplied intermittently. Air and fibre &c. from the hood may be received by a cowl which may be connected with a suction pump, and which may have air jets and/or water sprays to aid in removing the fibre &c. In a modification, a felt or rubber strip at the free edge of the hood contacts the roll 12.
