Abstract

947,294. Paper-making machines. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. May 22, 1962 [May 23, 1961], No. 19713/62. Heading D2A. A Fourdrinier paper-making machine has an arrangement to prevent a broken web clinging to the wire in which, upon web breakage, means located at the couch roll effect operation of a shower. A vacuum sensing device 16 in contact with the inner surface of the couch roll 10 has holes that open to atmosphere through the roll and wire except when a web breaks and clings to the wire whereupon a vacuum will be created that will bring about operation of a solenoid controlled air valve which opens a high pressure water valve to the shower 14. Simultaneously the time of the break is recorded. To keep the holes in the sensing device 16 clean, a manually controlled water supply is provided linked to the shower valve so that the shower is operative during the period of cleaning the sensing device.
