Splitting-machines.-In a machine for removing a thin layer of the skin by cutting from the surface of leather for gloves the leather is fed between rolls 2, 3 to a band-knife 5. In order to prevent adherence of the leather to the rolls, liquid is sprayed upon the leather tangentially to the rolls. Orifices supplied from a conduit 8 may discharge liquid on to the roll 3, or an apertured pipe above a supporting plate may discharge on to the roll 2. In a modification a rose on the end of a swivelling pipe discharges on to both rolls.
