In a cloth-calendering machine, a pair of metal rollers b, through which the cloth passes, is arranged in front of the calender rollers a; rollers b cause any metal particles in the cloth to cut a hole therein and thereafter fall from the cloth before it reaches rollers a. As shown, rollers b are carried by blocks b<SP>1</SP> in pedestals B mounted on the base plate a<SP>2</SP> of the machine ; spring pressure is adjustably applied to the upper roller by a hand wheel b<SP>4</SP>, and the minimum setting of the rollers is adjustably determined by rods b<SP>3</SP> which are screwed into the lower blocks b<SP>1</SP> and on the heads b<SP>5</SP> of which the upper blocks b<SP>1</SP> rest.
