[Class 59] A roll mill having two or more breast bars has the breast bars arranged with the associated roll or rolls to form part of a magnetic circuit whereby the bars are automatically maintained by magnetic attraction in surface contact with the roll or rolls as wear takes place. A coil 6 is mounted on a core 5 supported by a saddle bracket F; the magnetic circuit is completed through the two grinding bars 1, 2, and the adjacent surface of the grinding roll A, the bars 1, 2, being separated by a non-magnetic spacer 4. The cross-sectional area of the bars is reduced at their points of contact with the roll in order to produce a greater pressure per unit area of the grinding face. As wear takes place the bars and the core 5 move forward in the saddle bracket. A scraper D is provided.
