Abstract
649,979. Renovating fabrics by abrasive blasting. STRUCKMAN, E. F. Dec. 17 1947, No. 33352. [Class 60] [Also in Group VIII] Used textile fabric, particularly in worn suits or costumes, is treated to remove smoothed or glazed surfaces and restore the nap by subjecting the surfaces to be restored to bombardment by fine particles of grit in a manner similar to that employed in sandblasting and under controlled conditions of air pressure and size of grit particles. The grit particles are blown through the fabric to cut and sever the entwined fibres, whilst the air blast serves to comb the separated fibres. The article to be treated may be mounted on a former inside a cabinet, the grit being directed from a grit gun through one or more openings in the cabinet walls. For treating serge, a grit of 200 mesh and a pressure of 20 to 60 lb. per square inch may be used.
