Abstract

778,083. Rifles. JUREK, M. K. Nov. 9, 1955 [Aug. 10, 1954], No. 23163/54. Class 119. In a bolt action rifle, the handle is detachably secured to the bolt and is symmetrical about its longitudinal centre line so that its position on the bolt can be reversed to extend either to the right or to the left of the rifle when the bolt is inserted into the breech. In one form Fig. 6, the bolt 3 is provided with a locking sleeve 5 provided with tapped holes 8, either of which can be brought into register with a tapped hole 9 in a hub 10 on the handle 4 which is secured in position by a grub screw 11. The screw-threaded rear end 12 of the bolt 3 is engaged by a cap 13 which abuts against the hub 10 and secures the sleeve 5 against lengthwise movement on the bolt. In alternative arrangements the end of the locking sleeve 5 may be provided with a projecting tongue or with splines engaging a corresponding groove or keyways internally formed in the hub 10. In another form Figs. 7, 8 the hub 10 is rotatably mounted on a shank 15 of the bolt 3 and has a radial lug 16 adapted to engage and traverse a groove 17 in an extension 18 from the breech 2, the groove 17 opening into a peripheral groove 19. The hub 10 has two opposed V-shaped jaws 20 formed in each rim. In the assembled position the firing pin 22 projects beyond the rear end of the bolt 3 and has a collar 23 detachably secured thereto by a pin 24 engaging holes 25, 26. The collar 23 has two V-shaped noses 23a which will match either pairs of jaws 20 and also register with V-shaped jaws 20a in the extreme end of the bolt 3. In either position, the handle 10 engages one of two upright side recesses 27 adjoining the groove 19 so as to lock the bolt in the firing position. The outer end of the collar 23 is closed by a headed screw 28.
