898,486. Sliding bolts; bolt sockets. HARRISON (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd. Feb. 27, 1959 [Feb. 28, 1958], No. 6468/58. Class 44. A sliding bolt comprises a casing 1 in which the bolt 8 proper is slidable and a socket 11 having a portion 14 extending inwardly thereof and adapted to receive one end of the bolt, the free end of the bolt being so shaped that rotation about its longitudinal axis when it has been shot into the socket exerts a wedging action adapted to move the casing 1 and socket 11 relative to one another in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the bolt. As shown, the free end 10 of the bolt is grooved and co-operates with the portion 14 as the bolt is rotated by a knob 9. The free end of the bolt may be flat.
