A fastening comprises a spring-loaded bolt having a tapering bolt-head 10, and a staple 14 comprising an apertured plate 20 and a socket 19 adapted to receive the bolt-head through the plate, the socket being closed at one end towards which it tapers, the degree of taper corresponding to that of the bolt-head, the socket having a cross-sectional shape similar to that of the bolt-head and a length slightly greater than that length of the bolt-head which enters the socket, wherein in .each and every axial plane of the bolt, the apex angle of the bolt-head is less than 30 degrees and the struck and locking surfaces of the staple each make an angle of less than 30 degrees with the direction of shoot of the bolt. The bolt-head may be frusto-conical and the socket 19 similarly shaped.
