Abstract

1,179,372. Wall plugs. K. C. JOHNSON. 8 Jan., 1968 [13 Jan., 1967; 3 Aug., 1967], No. 1129/68. Heading F2H. A fastener comprises a body portion 2 having two planar surfaces 4, 5, one surface having a plurality of edges 17 extending from which are at least two gripping legs 7, pivotally mounted thereto so that when a member such as a nail or screw 25 is inserted through the body portion it engages a striking surface 10 on the legs and spreads them apart to grip the wall 21. In the embodiments described the body portion is provided with an opening 3 for receiving the screw or nail. Embodiments are described in which two, three and four legs are provided, the legs being shaped to fit together for passage through the hole in the wall 21. The wall engaging face of the legs is provided with serrations 16 for gripping the wall and the body portion is provided with a flange 4 to prevent the fastener passing right into the wall. The fastener may be made of metal or plastics material such as polypropylene.
