Abstract

1429830 Screw sockets W A DEUTSCHER PTY Ltd 10 Oct 1973 [13 Oct 1972] 47250/73 Heading F2H A one-piece screw socket, e.g. of nylon, which seals a panel aperture in which it is fitted comprises a hollow head 14 joined by a tapered neck 14 to a hollow stem 11 having internal and external transverse dimensions smaller than those of the head and a wall thickness greater than that of the head, the internal surface of the neck 14 having longitudinal grooves 17 and having a greater taper angle than the external surface, and the stem 11 being closed at its end 13 remote from the head. The head 15 is an interference fit in the aperture and externally is slightly tapered in the direction away from the neck 14, so that when a screw C or D is screwed into the socket the head 15 is deformed as at 18. The head has a radial flange 16 (Figs. 1, 4, 6) or a sleeve portion 21 (Fig. 9) which acts as a spacer between two panels A, B to be joined together in spaced relationship. The head may be of square or round cross-section, and the stem 11 may have an external circumferential rib 12.
