A two part fastening device for securing together plates 11 and 13, comprises a synthetic plastics sleeve 3 having a flange at one end, and a bore which is cylindrical at the flanged end but tapered outwardly towards the other end, where it is tapered to a lesser degree, or cylindrical, and a nut or bolt head 16 trapped in the bore. In use the sleeve is passed through an aperture in the plate 11, and a mating bolt through the aperture in the plate 13 to clamp the plates together, the member 16 expanding the slave as tightening occurs. - The bore may have circumferential ribs at each end. The external surface of the nut or bolt head may be knurled or similarly roughened.
