Abstract

1,152,578. Anchoring nuts and bolts. A. V. RAYMOND, [trading as A. RAYMOND DRUCKKNOPF & METALLWARENFABRIK]. 1 June, 1966 [3 June, 1965], No. 24456/66. Addition to 1,106,758. Heading F2H. A sleeve 1, e.g. of synthetic plastics, for use in combination with an externally tapered nut 9, or a bolt having an externally tapered head, comprises a tubular shank 3 for insertion through an aperture 12 in a support, an external flange 2 surrounding the inner end of the shank and adapted to abut a surface of the support, and a bore 7 extending lengthwise through the shank, the cross-sectional area of which increases towards the outer end of the shank so that the nut and bolt head will deform and expand the wall of the shank outwardly when it is drawn towards the inner end of the shank, the shank having on its outer surface a plurality of lengthwise extending ribs 17, and the wall of the shank being formed with a plurality of hollow pockets 16 each located adjacent a rib so as to increase the flexibility of the wall of the shank in the region of the ribs. The ribs 17 stop short of the flange 2, or they may be tapered towards the flange. In Fig. 1 the external diameter of the shank 3 is not more than twice the diameter of the thread on the nut or bolt, and the bore also comprises a cylindrical portion 6 extending from the inner end, and a plurality of projections 18 are located at the outer end to trap the nut. A circumferential rib 19 is also disposed at the inner end of the bore. In Fig. 5, not shown, the projections 18 are replaced by a continuous circumferential projection (21).
