Abstract

An impression composition for dental purposes comprises a slightly soluble carbodiimide which is used in reaction with a water soluble alginate or pectate with a metal salt in the presence of an accelerator or retarding agent. The preferred carbodiimides are those of zinc and lead. In examples, in addition to sodium alginate, the composition consists of :-(1) Zinc carbodiimide, potassium-titanium fluoride, barium sulphate, sodium pyrophosphate, and kieselguhr; (2) lead carbodiimide, potassiumtitanium fluoride, tertiary sodium phosphate, titanium dioxide and heavy spar: (3) lead carbodiimide, sodium silicofluoride, sodium pyrophosphate, and kieselguhr; (4) lead carbodiimide, sodium silicofluoride, disodium triglycolamidate, kieselguhr and heavy spar.
