Abstract
Forest- or bush-fires also metal (Al, Mg, Ti) are extinguished with economy of water, by an aqs. gel prepared by at least partial neutralisation of an aqs. solution of an alkali metal silicate. Pref. end concn. of silicate for gel preparation is 0.5-5 (1-2.5) wt.% silicate (as SiO2). Pref. neutralisation is carried out with an acid salt, pref. an acid phosphate, borate, sulphate or chloride pref of Zn, Al, Sn or Fe or NH4 or quaternary ammonium cations.
