Abstract
A dental impression composition comprises a water-soluble alginate, a gel-forming agent reactive with the alginate to form the composition into an elastic gel, a filler, and a minor proportion of an alkali metal titanium fluoride or an alkali metal zirconium fluoride which is preferably present in an amount of 1/2 to 7 per cent by weight. The gel forming agent may be calcium sulphate, lead silicate or calcium silicate, and may be present in an amount of 2-40 per cent. The filler may be diatomaceous earth, chalk, silica or clay in an amount of 40-60 per cent. A preferred composition consists of 51 per cent diatomaceous earth, 13 per cent potassium alginate, 7.2 per cent calcium sulphate, 24.2 per cent lead silicate, 2.6 per cent potassium titanium fluoride, and 1.8 per cent trisodium phosphate.
