Abstract

1303906 Antioxidant AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 19 April 1971 [11 May 1970] 9863/71 Heading C3Q A wettable, solid antioxidant composition, suitable for use with natural or synthetic rubber latex, consists of a mixture of (A) an antioxidant and (B) a wetting agent. (A) is phenyl-#- naphthylamine or a compound having a m.p. >40‹ C. and having one of the following general formulµ in which R is C 1-8 alkyl and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are each C 1-8 alkyl, H or CH 2 OH; in which R is H, C 1-8 alkyl or CH 2 OH and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are H or C 1-8 alkyl; in which R and R<SP>11</SP> are each H or C 1-8 alkyl and R<SP>1</SP> is H, C 1-8 alkyl or phenyl. (B) is a sulphosuccinic acid alkyl ester, a fatty acid ester of #-aminopropionic acid or a long-chain fatty alkyl sulphate or an alkali metal salt of such wetting agents. (B) is present at 1-5% by wt. based on the weight of (A). Typical examples of (A) are 2,2<SP>1</SP>-methylenebis-(4-methyl-6-t-butylphenol) or its 4-ethyl analogue; 4,4<SP>1</SP>-butylidenebis.(3-methyl-5-t-butylphenol); 2,6-di-t-butylp-cresol; 2,6-dimethyol-p-cresol; or 2,6-bis- (2<SP>1</SP> - hydroxy - 3 - t - octyl - 4<SP>1</SP> - methylbenzyl)- p-cresol. (B) may be a sodium salt of the dioctyl ester of sulphosuccinic acid or sodium lauryl sulphate.
