A cardboard box for chicks has triangular enclosures formed inside the box at the corners by extensions 3 of the side walls 2 each comprising panels 4 .. 7 folded, after folding up the side 2, so that the panels 4, 5, 6 form the triangle and flaps 13 on the other side walls are folded down inside the triangular enclosure. Each panel 5 has a tongue 10 which passes through a slit 11 in the base 1 of the box. Ventilation holes 8 in the panels 2 and 6 coincide in the assembled box. The side walls 12 have central flaps 14 with holes 15, the flaps passing through slits in a lid (not shown) and being bent down across the lid and secured by strings. In a modification a central partition is formed from a pair of identical blanks, Fig. 7, with end panels 25, 26 which are splayed out to form triangular enclosures at the ends of the panel, when it is fitted midway across the box the sides of which have central flaps arranged to be folded down inside the enclosure. The panels and flap have registering ventilation holes. An upstanding part of the partition may have a hand-hole. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the partitions are arranged in the form of a cross and comprise two separate blanks bent to form triangular enclosures at the midportions of each side of the box comprising panels 47, 48, and a square central enclosure formed by panels 45. Flaps 35, 39 on the side walls are folded down into the triangular enclosures.
