Abstract

777,091. Spray-producers. CASWELL, R. J. May 9, 1955 [May 21, 1954], No. 13391/55. Class 69 (3). A device 18 for producing a mist of liquid particles is secured to an opening in a liquid containing vessel 10, and is supplied with compressed air at 50, and has an outlet line 52 which leads a liquid mist to an outlet nozzle (not shown). The body 22 of the device includes a plug 26 which is screwed into a socket 36 fixed in the vessel opening. A plug bore 56 is enlarged at the top to receive a needle valve 104, and is enlarged at the bottom to receive a tube 118 extending into the liquid. A tube 116 also extends into the liquid. The vessel is pressurized by closing the outlet line 52, and compressed air from the inlet 50 flows through passages 48, 92 to a bore 64, and then downwardly and through a passage 96 to an annular groove 88. From the groove 88 the compressed air passes through a passage 94, a bore 72, and then past a valve 80 to a passage 122 and the space between the tubes 116, 118, and bubbles upwardly through the liquid. Compressed air also flows up the bore 64 and into the bore 56 via the needle valve, and then passes downwardly through the tube 116 into the liquid. To effect spraying the outlet line is opened and liquid flows upwardly through tube 116 and bore 56 where it meets, at the inlet end of a passage 90, compressed air flowing downwardly. A partial atomization is effected at this point and the mixture flows through the passage 90 to the outlet end thereof where it is met by compressed air flowing round annuli 82, 84. A filter 124 is provided together with an air bleed 126 which prevents an excess of pressure building up within the filter.
