Abstract

756,700. Lubricating. NORGREN CO., C. A. March 22, 1954, No. 8310/54. Class 12 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] Apparatus for generating oil mist, of the type having a body closing an upper open end of a reservoir, and a passage through the body having an inlet and an outlet for connection in a compressed gas conduit, has means in the reservoir for maintaining at least a portion of the oil at a predetermined level, means for supplying oil from this level to the passage and means for intermixing the oil and gas into a mist. As shown, a reservoir 10 for lubricating oil is connected by a ring 11 and bolts 19 to a body 12 provided with a threaded inlet 14 and a threaded outlet 16 for connection in a compressed gas conduit. A'passage 15 connects the inlet 14 to an annular groove 21 around a plug 20, a portion of the gas passing from the groove to a passage 17 leading to the outlet 16. Part of the gas passes through a passage 40 and a passage 42 in a diffusion plug 22, and through a tube 44 to a tube 46 in which one end of the tube 44 fits loosely. As the gas passes up the tube 46 oil is entrained from the reservoir and the mixture flows out through a lateral bore, the oil collecting in a container 50 and overflowing into the reservoir. Oil is drawn by suction from the container through a filter 55, a vertical tube 52 and a passage 53 into a chamber under a glass dome 34, the suction being caused by the provision in the plug 20 of a passage 23 leading from the passage 15 to a manifold 27 feeding a venturi throat 29 in which is a small tube 31 communicating with the chamber beneath the dome 34. The suction in this chamber can be adjusted by means of a needle valve 64 interposed between passages 62, 60 connecting the dome chamber with the reservoir. The oil from the dome chamber is atomized in the venturi throat and part of the oil/air mixture passes through an opening 58 to the outlet 16, the remaining oil returning to the reservoir 10. A plug valve 56 is provided for adjusting the amount of gas-leaving the outlet 16.
