Abstract

332,286. Janair, Ltd., and Hagemeister, J. J. April 18, 1929. Cylinders recciving liquid fuel.-In a fuel feed system for a Diesel engine of the air-blast injection type, the fuel is supplied to a nozzle 26 under air pressure equal to that of the air blast passing to an injection valve 12, the nozzle 26 being located in a mixing chamber 15 through which the air passes to a horizontal conduit 16 leading to the injection valve. A float chamber 21 is located at a lower level than the fuel resarvoir 18 to maintain the fuel at a constant level in the nozzle 26, the air pressure being balanced by the conduits. 19 and 24 leading from the main air conduit 14 to the reservoir and float chamber, respectively. On the opening of the injection valve the air blast from the container 13 in< >passing through the mixing chamber 15 withdraws a quantity of fuel from the nozzle 26 proportional to the air velocity, the latter being controlled by a throttle valve 17 which also serves to adjust the air blast pressure when the engine is running light. The conduit 16 leading to the injection valve is arranged horizontally so that the air blast will carry along an atomized fuel.
