Abstract
776,135. Gauging departure from standard form. FAIRCHILD ENGINE & AIRPLANE CORPORATION. Nov. 11, 1955 [Nov. 12, 1954], No. 32326/55. Class 106 (2). The contour of a face of a part is checked by arranging a number of independent gauging members 14, Fig. 1, with the aid of a templet 15 at such intervals that the surfaces of the gauges 14 correspond to the required contour of the face, fixing the gauging members to a base surface 10, either electromagnetically or by suction, and then placing the part to be checked with the face lying opposite and adjacent to the gauging surfaces, preferably with the templet still in position. The templet may bear markings 15b at the points where the face is to be checked and the markings may have symbols 15c indicating the particular gauges to be used at those points. The gauges, which may be stored in drawers 13 under the base surface 10, are preferably of two types, " flush " gauges 141, Fig. 2, whose surfaces 14c lie in the required contour of the face 20 and " gap "gauges 14<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 3, whose surfaces 14c lie outside and parallel to the required contour, the gap 14g being measured by a " go-no go " gauge of the desired tolerances. The height of the face may be checked against a datum mark 21. As shown, the members 14<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>11</SP> have machined faces 14e for abutting against the edge of the templet 15.
