Abstract
887,917. Angle comparators. WHARTON & WILCOCKS Ltd. Sept. 4, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29612/58. Class 97(3). A device for checking the angle between two faces of a machined component comprises a base 1 having a hardened knife edge 3 recessed into its lower edge and a pair of spaced vertical bars 4 guiding a block 6 which carries a dial indicating micrometer 8. In use a master component 10 is placed with its corner against knife edge 3 and the probe 9 of the micrometer 8 is adjusted to contact the component 10, the micrometer then being set to zero. The master component 10 is replaced by a second component which is to be checked and the probe 9 engaged with its face, the reading on the micrometer 8 indicating any error. Instead of knife edge 3 the base 1 may be formed, e.g. recessed, to accurately locate the components. To check angled faces the bars 4 may be pivoted about their lower ends, a vernier scale being provided to allow setting to any desired angle.
