Abstract

775,669. Direct-injection engines. KRUG, H. March 3, 1954 [March 24, 1953], No. 6212/54. Addition to 749,825 and 771,477. Class 7 (3). In a modification of the compression ignition engines described in the parent Specifications, the combustion chamber b, formed as a body of rotation in the piston, is provided at its mouth portion with a recess e which at the upstream side, in relation to the rotating air in the cylinder, begins at a radially directed shoulder f and at the downstream side merges gradually into the basic circular shape of the combustion chamber, the fuel being injected in one or more jets h1, h2, so as to impinge on the wall at places i1, i2, lying either in the recess e or immediately outside thereof. The rotating air is guided into the chamber b through the recess e and sweeps over the films of fuel at the places i1, i2. A second recess b, Fig. 2, may be provided to guide the burnt gases out of the chamber. A tangential passage guiding the charge into the combustion chamber similar to that described in the parent Specification may be combined with the recess e.
