Class 7(3) The wall of a precombustion chamber 2, in which the air charge rotates; is provided with ridges and/or grooves 8, Fig. 2, which disturb the smooth flow of the air. The grooves are preferably provided in an insert 4 forming the lower part of the chamber 2 and they may be interrupted at 9, Fig. 2, opposite the outlet of the passage 3. In Fig. 7 the grooves 12 run vertically and are only provided at the part of the wall on to which the fuel jet is directed.
