Abstract
774,385. Mounting and adjusting vehicle lamps. SOC. POUR LA FABRICATION DES PROJECTEURS ELECTRIQUES MARCHAL. Nov. 23, 1953, No. 32496/53: Class 75(3) In a vehicle headlamp of the kind comprising a casing adapted to be mounted rigidly on the vehicle body and an optical assembly comprising a glass, reflector, and electric lamp removably mounted on the casing by regulating screws and resilient holding means, the optical assembly may be moved relatively to the casing by remote control mechanism including a movable member guided by means carried by the casing. The optical assembly comprising a reflector 2b, Fig. 4, a front glass 2, and an electric lamp (not shown), is mounted in a ring 3 connected to a casing 1 by two screws 4 which permit the light beam to be adjusted horizontally and is tiltable by means of a Bowden cable 12 actuated by a knob at the vehicle dashboard. The cable 12 is secured to a member 7 slidable in a socket 9 and fastened by a spring 17 to a member 18 fixed to the ring 3. The spring 17 is held by lugs 18a (not shown) against the member 18 and is received in a peripheral groove in the member 7. The lamp assembly is tilted by the Bowden cable 12 against the action of a spring 5b secured between the casing 1 and a hook member 5a slidable on a fixed tab 6 and which engages a lug 5 carried by the ring 3. The action of the spring 5b may be assisted by a spring (not shown) within the socket 9. Another construction is described in which the member 7 is attached to the ring 3 by a lug which engages a tab carried by the ring, the spring 17 being omitted. In this construction a spring within the socket opposes the action of the spring 5b and ensures that the light beam emitted by the headlamp is tilted downwardly in the event of failure of the Bowden mechanism. A further embodiment is described in which a headlamp of known construction is modified by the attachment of remote control mechanism.
