Abstract

772,355. Injection-moulding machines. PROJECTILE & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. July 16, 1954 [July 20, 1953; Oct. 14, 1953; Feb. 12, 1954; June 28, 1954], Nos. 20095/53; 28377/53 ; 4254/54 and 18928/54. Class 87(2). The discharge end of the injection cylinder 40 carries a hollow ram 58, and this ram reciprocates in a supplementary cylinder 60 from which material is forced through a nozzle 61 into the mould. Between the torpedo 50 and the ram is a ball valve 112. Both cylinders are supported by a carriage comprising crossheads 20, 21 joined by bars 22. The carriage has shoes 23; 24 which slide on ways on a bed 25, the carriage being moved (to engage the nozzle with the mould and to break it away from the mould) by fluid-pressure cylinders 26 working over stationary pistons 28 secured to a fixed bolster 14. The supplementary cylinder 60 is secured to the crosshead 20. The injection cylinder 40 is secured to and moved by a large hollow piston 33 working in a cylinder 31 secured to crosshead 21. The piston 33 constitutes a cylinder for an inner piston 47 which operates the injection plunger 44. Plunger 44 carries a striker 68 which moves a plunger 65 to feed material from hopper 63 into the injection cylinder. Four pipes 80, 81, 82, 83 supported by the carriage and sliding within stationary supply tubes 95, 96, feed the cylinders 31, 33. Limit switches 105-6-7-8, connected to appropriate electrical devices, provide automatic cycle control. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) a screen plate is disposed between the ball valve 112 and the injection cylinder.
