The apparatus claimed in Claim 1 of Specification 832,718, is provided with a unit comprising a cylinder 4, a piston 27, and a ram 28, located behind the injection cylinder 1. Fluid is admitted to cylinder 4 to move ram 28, piston 16, ram 15 and plunger 14 to close the feed aperture 13 of hopper 12 simultaneously with the entry of fluid through valve 23 to cylinder 2 which moves movable mould half 9 towards stationary mould half 7. After the mould halves have been closed fluid is admitted simultaneously to cylinders 1 and 3.
