Abstract

A mould 11, 71 (Fig. 1) having drive means (not shown) for opening and closing it is provided with means 3, 4 separate from the drive means to assist the opening of the mould. In Figs. 1, 2 piston 4 operating in hydraulic cylinders 3 in a movable platen 1, have pistonrods 4a adapted to bear against threaded rods 8 adjustably mounted in a fixed platen 7. In Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the pressure cylinders (13) are formed within the movable mould section (12) and the piston-rods (4c) bear on the inner face of the stationary mould (14). In Figs. 5, 6 an opening-assisting cylinder 28 has a piston 26 connected by a shaft 25 to a mould platen 24 slidable on tie rods 23. The stroke of the piston 26 is limited by a threaded plug 30. The opening-assisting device may also actuate an ejector mechanism (not shown).
