Abstract

888,448. Injection-moulding machines. WINDSOR Ltd., R. H. Feb. 8, 1961 [Feb. 8, 1960], No. 4384/60. Class 87(2). An injection moulding machine comprises a pre-plasticising chamber 6 containing an axially reciprocable screw 7 which injects material from the forward end 6a of the chamber through a feed conduit 10a, 10b, 10c into the mould, and an auxiliary plunger 13 operated by piston/cylinder unit 11, 12 to close the feed conduit from the chamber 6a and maintain the injected material under the required pressure. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the ram 13 operates in a bore 15 in a part 16 of a split mould 16, 16a and closes the feed conduit 10 leading to mould cavity 17. The outlet 6a of chamber 6 is closed by a valve 14. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, the ram 13 is slidably arranged in a bore in the axially movable screw 7. Fig. 6 (not shown), depicts a hydraulic control circuit for axially moving the screw and moving the auxiliary ram 13. Fig. 2 (not shown), depicts an embodiment similar to that of Fig. 3, but with the bore in which the auxiliary plunger works situated in advance of the mould halves. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, (not shown), the auxiliary plunger works horizontally and the reciprocable conveyer is of the twin-screw type. Specifications 760,480 and 849,645 are referred to.
