Abstract

1,110,534. Injection moulding machines. PECO MACHINERY Ltd. and P. F. HARRISON. 30 Nov., 1966 [22 Nov., 1965], No. 49528/65. Heading B5A. The volume of a mould cavity 12 and the injection pressure are controlled in dependence on the position of an injection plunger 17 during its working stroke. The control is dependent on instantaneous position of the plunger and is energized by a unit 23 connected electrically to switches 22 operated by the plunger, the injection pressure depending on hydraulic pressure in a plunger cylinder 20 and controlled by a walve 24, the cavity volume being controlled by a potentiometer 25 acting as a feed to a servo-control 27 linked to the unit 23 the control 27 acting on a valve 28 to control the pressure to a cylinder 16 which moves a platen 14 supporting a mould half 11 in telescopic arrangement with a fixed mould half 10. The inter-relation between the mould volume and injection pressure is predetermined and controlled by punch-card, datum-setting electric circuits or model curves using parameters such a time. The unit 23 may be controlled continuously by a potentiometer (30), replacing the switches 22. The cavity volume is either maintained at the required value during injection or is increased and then reduced to the required value to effect a compression moulding. In a modification (not shown) a three part mould is used, one part sliding telescopically and centrally within the periphery of another.
