Abstract

1319648 Injection moulding machines MAS HYDRAULIC & VULCANIZING MACHINERY CO S r 1 28 July 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 36528/70 Heading B5A A vertically closing injection-moulding press comprises a frame 1, first and second movable die supporting platens, 28, 9, rigid back-up means 29 carried by the first platen, a first hydraulic actuator 37, 38 operable to effect displacement of the first platen 28, together with the back-up means, towards or away from the second platen, the back-up means comprising at least one base block 30 (Fig. 2) and a plurality of shim blocks 36, the back-up means being movable from a first position shown in Fig. 1 to a second position in which it is disengaged from abutment means on the frame 1, means 32 for moving the back-up means between the said first and second positions, and a second hydraulic actuator 2, 4 connected to the second platen and operable to apply a clamping force to the mould 20 when the mould is closed and the back-up means are in the first position. A screw processing unit 16 supplies moulding material to a transfer chamber 19 and an injection plunger 7 injects the material through an injection nozzle 22 into a mould 20. Means are provided for interrupting charging during injection, and for disconnecting the transfer chamber 19 from the injection nozzle 22 during charging of the transfer chamber. In one example (Fig. 4) this last means comprises a valve system 19a comprising a double-acting hydraulic cylinder 270 having a piston 310 whose piston rod 340 is formed with a restriction 350 and a head portion 360 with a slope 361. The injection plunger 7 comprises the end of a piston rod 8 whose piston 6 slides in the cylinder 4 which acts as the piston in cylinder 2. The mould 20 can be moved laterally by an hydraulic cylinder 26. The machine is adapted for moulds of different sizes by means of the shim blocks 36 which are secured to the blocks 30 by screws 35. Figs. 5, 6 and 7, 8 (not shown) illustrate modified forms of the means for disconnecting the transfer chamber from the injection nozzle.
